INDOOR TRIALS JANUARY 3rd

Posted by Ann Ham on February 10, 2016 at 1:35 AM

Fast, furious and fun! The first affiliated indoor driving trial of 2016 in Wales was an exciting event. Affiliated indoor trials are run through the winter by Powys Carriage Driving Group with competitors coming from afar, from South Wales and Shropshire, to take on local club members and try to qualify for the Indoor Championships at Keysoe in April. Four pony pairs took part with Rowena Moyse winning the class.

Open Horse was won by club president Jonathan Rees , unbeaten indoors in this class, who also took the best score of the day just 1.5 seconds ahead of local driver Emily Ham who had the joint Best Dressage of the day and best overall pony score. Emily won Open Pony driving Mr J and already looks set to qualify for the championships along with Jonathan and novice winner and keen member Emily Curnock, just 15 years old. These three drivers were awesomely fast in the obstacles - as was young Jack Kedward driving homebred pony Howell, who rocketed ahead of his mum driving stud stallion Gurnos Jo Jo. The offspring beating the parents on this occasion!

Unaffiliated classes were also held with Judi Reeve and her Shetland pair winning the club class and Hammy Ham who has recently taken up carriage driving, with the responsive Mr J, taking the Newcomers Class with a very good cones round.

Spectators and stewards are most welcome to any event. Our next is on Feb 28th in the indoor school at Llwynon Saddlery , Trecastle. Anyone interested in the sport should contact Ann Ham on 01874 690253.
